Children
need 6-8 cups of fluid per day. One cup of fluid is equal to 8 ounces which is
equal to 240 milliliters. Sources of fluid include: water, lowfat milk, 100%
fruit juice, soup and anything that is liquid at room temperature. When
considering drink choices water is always best. Lowfat or skim milk should be
chosen for children over the age of 2. After the age of 2 children no longer
need the extra fat that is found in 2% or whole milk. Juice should be used
sparingly because it contributes extra calories and sugar that are not
necessary in a child’s diet.
100% juice box (served 1 time per week) children get more
nutrients out of eating a whole fruit.
