Over the river and through the woods doesn't have to be
filled with sugar laden, high energy, non-nutrient dense foods!
If you are traveling by car, and have a cooler available, here are
some healthy options for the little ones (and the adults):
Milk boxes
Cheese sticks
Apple slices
Sandwiches
Raw veggies
Hummus or squeezable nut butter pouches
Squeezable applesauce
If you are traveling by plane avoid the on flight purchase
items by packing your own:
Trail mix (dry cereal mixed with dried fruit, nuts and chocolate chips or pretzels)
Bananas
Apples
100% fruit snacks (without added sugars or preservatives)
Peanut butter sandwiches
Granola bars
Clif bars for Kids
When my family traveled home over Thanksgiving we did a Texas Tour, traveling between three cities with two young children in tow. Before we left on the plane I packed fruit snacks and cheddar bunnies from Annie's line of snacks. My dad packed us a cooler full of boxed milk, cheese sticks and grapes. And right before we got on the plane to head back to Florida my mom had two cute bags of snacks for the kids. The kids loved opening their surprise bag of snacks and I did not have to spend tons of money on unhealthy fare at the airport.
It takes a little bit of time to plan ahead but it is well worth it in the end.
