Day 7 Pointing out the importance of Physical Activity

On the 7th Day of Christmas my
Registered Dietitian recommended to me...
 Get Moving!

NO excuses, even if it is a little chilly outside! You have made an effort all year long and the Holiday's should not stop you! The recommendation for physical activity is to stay moving for at least 30-60 minutes per day, kids included.

Here are a few Ideas to keep you and your family moving:

1. Take an extra (or 2 or 3 laps) around the mall, picking up the pace to get some good moving in while you shop.

2. Dance party! New Years Eve is when my household turns up the music and gets moving. Our 7 & 4 year old love to wiggle, jump and mimic my husband's favored robot dance. It's a great time for everyone to get silly and share a few laughs, as well as burn off some of the extra energy.

3. Take a walk or bike ride around the neighborhood to check out the Holiday lights.

4. Sign up for a Jingle bell fun run/walk. It's not too late! Most runs you can join the same day.

5. Think about giving your family members gifts that encourage physical activity.

6. Start thinking about your physical activity goals for the new year. This is important because it keeps your mind focused on the time beyond the holidays.

Have a great Holiday and keep moving!

P.S. While I was writing this blog post I ran across this article in Huffington Post with 15 more tips to keep you moving during the holidays!
